I’m a board member and big supporter of the local sustainable business council in my hometown of Missoula, Montana. The SBC is a member business organization promoting vibrant local economies and caring communities based on renewable resources and clean, efficient practices that lead to a healthy environment, rewarding employment, and a high quality of life. The Green Thread is a faculty workshop initiative that I
co- wrote with Steven Schwarze. With the help of a great steering committee, the first workshop will be offered May 2009 to promote sustainability literacy efforts at the University of Montana curriculum by stimulating discussion around how social and environmental issues can be introduced into any course. I was a member of the Advisory Committee, chaired by Dr. Steve Running (IPCC member and Nobel Laureate), that developed the first climate change minor in the country at University of Montana. Comprised of 21 credits of science, society and solutions, I am proud to have developed and now teach two courses in the "solutions" category. You can read about the visionary program and check out my two courses under "Course Descriptions" - I teach Sustainable Business Practices and Issues in Sustainability.
